STEPHEN KENT EHAT

Prior to forming California Legal Research, Inc., Mr. Ehat was vice president and director of The Legal Research Group, Inc. As a shareholder in the law firm of Bacigalupi, Neufeld & Ehat, A Professional Law Corporation, located in Fresno, California, he served from 1989 to 2000 as an Assistant City Attorney for four cities and legal counsel for a power co-generation corporation, individuals and partnerships, providing a full range of legal services, including researching the law; drafting, editing, and amending local laws; preparing trial and appellate briefs; litigating; and negotiating and settling disputes.

From 1984 to 1989 he served as a Research Attorney for two Federal Bankruptcy judges in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California, Fresno Division, where he researched legal matters and drafted judicial opinions. He previously had served as a law clerk in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, Fresno, California (1981-1982) and there performed legal research for a United States Magistrate Judge and for two Federal District Judges, drafting opinions, orders, and memoranda. He also served as a law clerk in the law firm of Wild, Carter, Tipton & Oliver, the oldest law firm in Fresno, California, where he performed legal research, drafted legal briefs and pleadings, and performed investigations.

During law school he served as an editor and author for the Utah Constitutional Revision Commission in the Office of Legislative Research, in Salt Lake City, Utah (1980-1981). There he edited and authored portions of a seven-volume treatise on the Utah State Constitution, dealing with its history and the interpretation of its provisions.

He earned his Juris Doctorate degree at J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah (1981), where he served as the Business Editor and as a member of a four-person Board of Directors of the Brigham Young University Journal of Legal Studies (1980-1981), producing the Summary of Utah Corporation Law. He also authored Chapter 1, "Requirements of a Marriage," Summary of Utah Family Law (1980).

In 1978 he earned his Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. With an undergraduate curriculum emphasizing writing, he served (1976-1978) as a senior editor of Century 2, A Scholarly Student Journal.

Mr. Ehat is an active member of the State Bar of California, licensed to practice in all the courts of the State of California; in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, and Central Districts of California; and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  He has taught the Business Law class, "Law in the Environment" (Accounting 241), at the BYU Salt Lake Center.

DANIEL S. BROWN

For most of the last eight years Daniel Brown has served as a solo practitioner and an independent investment advisor, giving his clients useful counsel regarding estate planning, business organization, litigation, and financial planning.

Regarding litigation, Daniel has deposed plaintiffs and witnesses in asbestos litigation; answered discovery; designed, marketed, and implemented business debt collection procedures; and represented clients in debt collection, encroachment, bankruptcy, unlawful detainer, and criminal matters.

In the areas of contracts and business, Mr. Brown has established and organized an underwriting management consulting office, drafted contracts and documents for the establishment of partnerships and corporations, and drafted deferred benefits and cafeteria plans for use by non-profit organizations.

By marketing and preparing estate plans for middle class families, Daniel has advised clients in estate planning and probate and he has represented petitioners in the probate process. He has advised clients on the establishment of charitable foundations and has been a guest lecturer on finance and estate planning at Golden Gate University.

In Mr. Brown's Real Estate practice, he has negotiated the sale of commercial real-estate, preparing deeds of trust, promissory notes and other related contracts. He has worked with title companies, courts, and heirs in clearing title to real estate and as a licenced realtor, he has marketed and processed documentation for refinance mortgages.

In 1999, Daniel joined Prudential Preferred Advisors, where he became a registered investment advisor. Previously, in 1993, he had worked with Schofield and Schiller in Walnut Creek, California, serving as a litigator in insurance defense and asbestos matters.

After graduating from Brigham Young University Law School in 1991, Daniel Brown was an associate with Ropers, Majeski in Redwood City, California. With Ropers, Daniel practiced in the areas of insurance coverage and appeals, primarily providing insurance coverage opinions for State Farm, Allstate Insurance, and CSAA. He also helped prepare an industry-wide document database for pollution damage litigation. Similarly, he prepared a spreadsheet detailing over $20 million of legal services provided in a complex contract case.

Mr. Brown graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Brigham Young University in 1988 where he focused on economic history and development. Daniel, a California native, is married and lives with his wife and three children in Danville, California.

Mr. Ehat is an officer and director of CALRI and Mr. Brown is a contractor with CALRI.
